This fall the ASBPC reached out to the Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors to inquire about the progress towards a new Vegetation Management Plan for provincial highways. The last official response to Resolution 1-22 was received on February 22, 2022 which stated that they were going to “conduct a program-level review of our vegetation management program to ensure its ongoing effectiveness.”
Subsequent inquires into the progress of the review have assured the ASBPC that the program was being reviewed and an approved plan would be adopted and communicated to the Committee. On our last inquiry we learned that the adopted plan was used for the 2023 growing season and plans were underway to communicate the plan with the ASBs and with RMA.
Subsequently a letter outlining briefly the terms of the plan was sent to the ASBPC on October 2, 2023, and a ministry staff member will be attending the ASBPC meeting in Edmonton on November 6, 2023 to present their plan and answer questions.
