Engage in Canada’s Next Agricultural Policy Consultation

“National consultations for the Next Policy Framework are anticipated to run until December 2027 and will consist of two phases. This first phase of the consultation process will be open until June 30, 2026, and a second phase of engagement is expected to begin in the fall of 2026.”

Background (from the Canada.ca website)

The Next Policy Framework (NPF) is a 5-year (2028–2033) federal, provincial and territorial (FPT) investment aimed at strengthening and growing Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector. The NPF will succeed the current Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), which is in effect from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2028.

To support the development of the NPF, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) wants to hear from Canadians, including farmers, producers, processors, Indigenous communities, women, youth, and industry associations.

The AAFC-led consultation process begins in January 2026 and will remain open until December 2027. The consultations will focus on gathering feedback on current and emerging challenges as well as opportunities facing the sector, which will help guide the vision and priorities for the framework. Your feedback, in addition to the insights that our provincial and territorial partners receive in their consultations, will inform the policy statement to be announced by FPT Ministers in July 2026.
