In October the ASBPC received a response to Resolution 1-22 from Transportation and Economic Corridors along with the promise to send a delegation to the in person meeting on November 6, 2023 to answer any questions the Committee may have.
On November 6, 2023 Derrick Wilson, the Operations Manager out of the Hanna district presented a PowerPoint presentation outlining the plan.
This is the same presentation that was presented at the Central Region ASB Conference. The ASBPC has been pushing for a comprehensive vegetation management plan that creates a consistent and sustainable approach to managing weeds, brush and safety on the highways in Alberta.
The Committee asked specifically about collaborations between the maintenance contractors and the municipal crews as they are often better equipped to deal with the mowing and spraying concerns. Derrick explained that there is no barrier from the province to the maintenance contractors subcontracting vegetation activities to the municipalities. The province encourages the contractors to reach out and work with municipalities as there is better results over larger areas.
Currently the government is working on renewing contracts and negotiations can take a while.
Details of the plans can be found in the above presentation.
