On March 24, the ASBPC was given notice that the Government is considering changes to the wild boar industry, and was invited to join ADM Conrad for a one-off special meeting on April 15, 2025 to discuss further.
Earlier on March 24, wild boar producers and farmers who have worked with Agriculture and Irrigation in the past, or who have indicated they have wild boar through the Premise Identification System were informed through emails and phone calls that the government is considering changes to the farmed wild boar industry, and were invited to a webinar with ADM John Conrad on April 15, 2025 from 9:30-11:00AM.
Following the webinar, wild boar producers can book appointments with the wild boar specialist and program director for individual phone calls to discuss potential changes with them directly.
Later on March 24, the wild boar processors identified through the Premise Identification System, the Meat and Dairy Inspection Section, and the Alberta Auction Markets Association were invited to a meeting on April 24, 2025 with the Wild Boar Program Director
In addition, the government staff notified the ASB Chairs and Fieldman for counties with wild boar farms by email about this industry discussion plan and process.
During these industry discussions, regular day-to-day communication between Agricultural Fieldman and the wild boar specialist will continue as usual, and we encourage Fieldman to reach out with any operational concerns related to wild boar farms in their county.
ASB Provincial Committee is expecting a letter from Minister Sigurdson providing an updated response to the 2024 Agricultural Service Board’s Resolution 5-24: Wild Boar and the Alberta Agricultural Pest Act.
